What do I believe in? What is my place in this world? If you do, youre not alone. Many people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) struggle with identity issuesâ€"one of the core symptoms of BPD. Plenty of people without BPD struggle with identity issues, too. But people with BPD often have a very profound lack of sense of self. If you struggle with the feeling that you have no idea who you are or what you believe in, this may be a symptom you can relate to. Understanding Identity Most experts view identity as your overarching sense and view of yourself. A stable sense of identity means being able to see yourself as the same person in the past, present, and future. In addition, a stable sense of self requires the ability to view yourself in one way despite the fact that sometimes you may behave in contradictory ways. Identity is quite broad  and includes many aspects of the self. Your sense of self or identity is probably made up of your beliefs, attitudes, abilities, history, ways of behaving, personality, temperament, knowledge, opinions, and roles. Identity can be thought of as your self-definition; it’s the glue that holds together all of these diverse aspects of yourself. Why Identity Is Important Having a sense of identity serves many different functions. First, if you have a strong identity, it allows you to develop self-esteem. Without knowing who you are, how can you develop a sense that you are worthwhile and deserving of respect? In addition, a strong identity can help you to adapt to changes. While the world around you is constantly changing, if you have a strong sense of self, you essentially have an anchor to hold you while you adapt. Without that anchor, changes can feel chaotic and even terrifying. How to Deal With Low Self-Esteem When You Have BPD The Question Who Am I? and BPD One of the symptoms of BPD listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the standard for diagnosing mental conditions, is identity disturbance, or a markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.?? People with BPD often report that they have no idea who they are or what they believe in. Sometimes they report that they simply feel non-existent. Others even say that they are almost like a chameleon in terms of identity; they change who they are depending on their circumstances and what they think others want from them. For example, you might find yourself being the life of the party at social events, but having a somber and serious demeanor at work functions. Of course, everyone changes their behavior to some degree in different contexts, but in BPD this shift is much more profound. Many people with BPD say that in addition to behavior, their thoughts and feelings change to match the current situation. Identity problems in BPD are sometimes called identity diffusion. This refers to difficulties determining who you are in relation to other people.?? Some people with BPD may describe this as having difficulties understanding where you end and the other person begins. As a result, many people with BPD struggle to set up and maintain healthy personal boundaries and have difficulties in their interpersonal relationships. Why People With BPD Have Identity Problems Unfortunately, there has been very little research on the identity problems associated with BPD, but there are many theories as to why people with BPD often struggle with identity. For example, Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., a leading BPD researcher and the founder of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), believes you develop an identity by observing your own emotions, thoughts, and feelings, in addition to others’ reactions to you.?? If you have BPD and the associated emotional instability, impulsive behavior, and dichotomous thinking, you may have difficulty forming a coherent sense of self because your internal experiences and outward actions are not consistent. In addition, many people with BPD come from chaotic or abusive backgrounds,?? which may contribute to an unstable sense of self. If you determine who you are based on others’ reactions to you, and those reactions have been unpredictable and/or scary, you have no framework for developing a strong sense of identity. Another potential factor is being able to think about the mental states of yourself and others regarding dreams, thoughts, emotions, and goals, known as mentalizing, which is difficult for those with BPD.  One study  published in 2017 showed that this problem with mentalizing may play a key role in why people with BPD struggle so much with identity diffusion and interpersonal relationships.?? How to Find Yourself So how do you go about answering the question, “Who am I?” Of course, there is no magic solution for identity problemsâ€"these issues are complicated. However, most treatments for BPD include components that can help you to begin to discover who you are and what you stand for. The first step in finding yourself is finding a good therapist who can help you work on identity problems. In addition, there are ways that you can work on identity issues on your own. You can begin to discover what you view as meaningful in your life. The act of categorizing and defining these areas can help you start on a path to discovering whats most important to you, which is a significant part of your identity. When I first saw the topic of this essay to discuss the primary differences between grass fed and corn fed beef. I had thought to myself hmmm I was thinking all cows had just ate grass. I always thought cow’s were slow food because they ate grass but I wondered how so much beef was being produced so fast, but then I thought about all the chicken steroid stories. Cows are ruminants designed by nature to stay healthy and be totally sustained taking nourishment on grass and only grass. Cows, have stomachs that are designed to digest grass. But of demand and because cattle producers are so profit driven, their operations use the cheapest feed available to make their cows bigger the fastest way possible. Cattle producers use corn fed with soy for their feed, because the protein rich grains that fatten up their cows, and because they are cheaper. Cattle were not designed to eat corn or grain. Raising cows on grass is natural and not only makes sense for a cow’s digestive systems, but it makes sense for us human beings too, by turning something we don’t eat, grass into something we can eat in meat, milk, cheese and other dairy products. Cattle that are free range and are raised on grass provides meat that is leaner, higher in vitamins and lower in fat calories than the hybrid cow’s. It was interesting to find out that grass fed beef has about the same amount of fat a skinless chicken, and will actually lower your cholesterol levels. Learning from being in this phase wine and beverage class, just as soil affects the quality of wine, a cows diet can change the quality of its meat. Like all slow food, grass fed beef doesn’t have the same consistency as corn fed beef because unlike corn or grain feed it has added antibiotics and other things to make it consistent unlike grass that changes during climate changes. Grass fed beef wont look and doesn’t taste exactly the same every time you buy it. Grass-fed beef also has a reputation for being tough and lacking tenderness, but is said to be more juicier and true beefy flavor. Some studies show there isnt a real clear-cut, consistent taste differences between grass fed and corn fed beef. Corn fed beef has more fat than grass fed beef so the cook, chef would have more room for error with some corn fed beef rather than some grass fed because that fat adds flavor that you can lose if you overcook leaner grass fed beef. But like the organic free range chicken and regular grocery store chicken we had in contemparary class, being raised on corn fed beef, the texture and flavor of grass fed beef can taste a bit off and we may think it doesn’t taste how true beef should taste. The styrofoam containers of corn and grain fed convential beef that are at the Shop and Save’s, Schnucks will be more cheaper than a pack of grass fed beef at Whole foods or any other local markets that sell grass fed beef. You probably could get grass fed beef for the same price as your corn beef a Diebergs or other grocery stores if you where to buy directly from a farmer of livestock. Traditionally, before man started to produce and make a living off of cow’s, all beef was grass fed beef, but due to the man’s greed the cow will eat growth hormone feed nowadays. I remember seeing some show about cow’s and how they were so big and overdeveloped that they couldn’t even walk and they were just milk makers. After researching breeds, the best breeds of cattle for grass fed beef is Murray Grey cattle or the â€Å"Orie cookie cow† the Belted Galloway cattle or an English breed such as a Shorthorn cattle, Angus cattle, Red Angus cattle, and Hereford cattle. The Highland cattle also have not lost the ability to thrive on grass alone. The Canadienne cattle, Florida Cracker cattle, Devon cattle, Red Polled cattle, Randall Lineback cattle, and Ayrshire cattle are good cow’s to breed for grass fed beef in smaller farms than a big commercial one. I think grass fed beef would be more suited for a braised brisket, chuck roast or short ribs, or pan fried liver or cube steak because it is a tougher meat. If you cook low and slow enough, you can make any cut fall-off-the-bone, and be fork-tender.

The ghost speaks of his custom of sleeping in the orchard during the afternoon; the word custom highlights the manipulative and conniving nature of Claudius. This manipulative brother stole which refers to the sin of theft; this is also an attribution to the Ten Commandments listed in the bible, which quoted Thou shall not steal. Claudius stole Hamlets life with cursed hebenon, which was noted to be potent when it mixes with the blood stream, and causes the blood to curdle. The ghost of Hamlet then uses the metaphor of describing the ears as a porch which is the natural extrusion of the body. The leperous distilment refers to the cursed hebenon which curdles blood, and leperous is an apt adjective as it describes the effect of the poisonous liquid. The effect is described as enmity with the blood of man, as if personifying the liquid as abhorrent to human blood. Hebenons rapid action is compared to the swiftness of quicksilver or mercury as the metaphor of the natural gates and alleys of the body is used to makes the comparison effective as it effectively curdles blood. The theme of redundancy is brought out again, by using another example of curd. Hamlets ghost then uses a simile as curd curdles milk. Hamlets ghosts blood like the milk became curdled by the dropping of curd. There is use of contrast as the word thin is used to emphasize the thickness of anything curdled. Hamlets ghost soon was tainted by a skin ailment, he then specifies how the skin ailment if lazar-like or like leprosy. Shakespeare again uses contrast to reiterate the ill effects of this lecherous liquid, as the words of loathsome crust being the result of the transition from his smooth body. Hamlet again underlines the politic nature of Claudius by saying that he was sleeping. Shakespeare then makes clear to the audience of the nature of the murder. This murder didnt just rob King Hamlet of his life, but also two more esteemed possessions, his crown and wife. Hamlets ghost also uses the word dispatched which is a euphemism compared to the accusations of theft mentioned previously. The sacrosanct nature of King Hamlet is brought out as he mentions numerous Christian beliefs. It was believed that one must seek salvation and confess before ones death, but King Hamlet was unaware of the cruel slaughtering of his life, he was cut in the blossoms of his sin. Unhouseled refers to how the ghost was without sacrament and the Eucharist. Disappointed infers how Hamlet was unprepared for death, and he couldnt confess to sins and seek absolution. Unanointed refers to how King Hamlet has not received the holy oil from a priest. King Hamlet then says Adieu, adieu, adieu to shows the speed at which he must soon depart. Remember me connects to the soliloquy made by Hamlet who is in desperation to lose the harsh memories asked Must I remember? Young Hamlet then in the state of desperation and shock beckons Heaven and earth, his state of desperation is highlighted by the numerous exclamation marks. He calls upon the host of heaven which is composed of the choir of angels He then ponders whether he should request help from even hell? He immediately repents by saying Oh fie. The theme of repetition is once again through hold, hold to show the emotional attachment and the grief that he has experienced through finding out the actual truth as to why his father is currently dead. Hamlet starts to speak to himself, by reassuring his sinews to stay strong and not grow instant old, but to make sure he doesnt faint. Remember thee? This is used twice in the next few lines, shows that Hamlet cant accept that his father even questions whether he will remember him. Hamlet speaks of a distracted globe, this globe could be his mind, in which memory will always hold a seat, and his distracted temperament due to realization to the truth. The globe could also be a reference to the globe theater which was going through turbulent times. Hamlet then speaks of the table which was a notebook used for recording, through this metaphor he compares his memory to the table. Trivial fond this statement is an oxymoron of a kind, since fond memories are those which usually hold the reins of ones memory, but he sees these happy memories as petty. Hamlet then uses pauses to shows his reflection so he can list all of which he will wipe away from his memory, so that the commandment can alone live. He refers to his fathers words as a commandment, giving his father an almost equal status to the divine, which shows the extent to which he will obey his fathers commands. He then personifies his mind as a library where books and volumes are housed, which will soon be forgotten. Hamlet then condemns women, by using the adjective pernicious, which is harsh to describe the dangerous and untrustworthy nature of his mother and women in general. Hamlet then repeats the word villain to reemphasize the nature of the current king; he also uses the verb smiling to describe Claudius. The smiling criminal is one that Shakespeare oft refers to most well noticed in Macbeth where he writes Theres daggers in mens smiles. This intensifies the dramatic impact, as the smiling which is associated to joy, is now being portrayed as villainous. Hamlet then uses the word may as to whether there is a smiling villain in Denmark; this again shows doubt as to whether the ghost is actually his father or a poltergeist trying to beguile him.
